The season is renewing in the smartphone bids to bring some feature that really catches the consumer’s attention. More than just increasing quantity and quality of cameras. We have observed the arrival of the folding smartphones. Besides that we see a design change that eliminates the ports and physical buttons for wide screens and a more consistent body.
The Meizu yesterday announced its “monolith phone” Meizu Zero. It eliminates all entries for connectors and brings a powerful charger. The Vivo, last year, was already trying to break the protocol with retractable cameras. It confirmed on Thursday (24) the product formerly called “The Water Drop”.
Almost no port
Like the Meizu Zero, the minimalist concept avoids interruptions in device design. And the Apex 2019 brings almost no port. “Almost” because it still has a small microphone positioned just below the display. Also, a MagPort for battery and data transfer at the rear. Moreover, accessibility is all digital.
One of the novelties is the biometric reading, which can be done throughout the panel. That is, you can unlock it by pressing anywhere on the screen. This is done using optical sensors (not Qualcomm’s ultrasonic tracking).
To increase or decrease volume, Vivo uses a solution similar to HTC EdgeSense, with a capacitive metal side frame.
The so-called Touch Sense identifies the pressure and locates where exactly the contact is being triggered. With that, the back of the Apex 2019 is its only non-touch region.
The concept “Waterdrop”
The Apex 2019 is based on cosmic detectors from the Chinese book “The Three-Body Problem”. It has rounded tips around the body of glass, dubbed “Super Unibody.” The device is not made entirely in an outer single piece. Because there is a fitting for the panel, called “Curved-Surface Waterdrop Glass”.
Although it is elegant, still can not say for sure how makeup will survive a fall. The absence of cracks or more joints, however, favors resistance to water and dust. There is, for now, and specs on this. But it should be noted that it should be an important part of the product’s disclosure.
New to be presented during MWC 2019 next month in Barcelona
Snapdragon 855 Processor
The processor is the Snapdragon 855. It comes with 12 GB of RAM, with 256 GB of internal storage. The Apex 2019 will be Vivo’s first 5G-ready smartphone with Qualcomm’s X50 modem. The Chinese even said it is using a new technique to promote more space on its motherboard. Also, receive components of the fifth generation of mobile internet without compromising the design.
On the cameras, there are two rear, still without specifications. And, curiously, there is no sensor signal for selfies.
Regarding sound reproduction, there are still no details. But it may be transmitted through the OLED display (not confirmed too).
Without the traditional SIM card, the Apex 2019 should use eSIM. As stated above, power is supplied by MagPort and there is no data on battery capacity.
Well, as you can see, it is an interesting device. But surrounded by doubts. And so Concept Phone company called it the Apex 2019. He will be at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona at the end of February. And we will be there to see this news.
