Although Apple has attempted to enhance the iOS customization experience over the past few years with the release of new versions, a significant portion of system users apparently is not satisfied with the options given by default.
Appearing as an alternative to those who are sick of dynamic wallpapers and Live Photos, a new tweak called MotionPicture enables jailbroken iPhones to add a fully animated wallpaper to the home and lock screens.
Produced by the Dev4i developer, tweak supports a considerable amount of formats, from GIFs to MP4 and MOV files, greatly encompassing the possibility of customization. Check below a brief example of how an iPhone can keep the tweak in action.
Set videos and GIFs as wallpaper
Once installed, a new preference pane is added to the Settings application allowing the user to configure the customization options according to their liking. As can be seen in the following image, there is a key to enable and disable the feature and some other keys to further customize the display.
In addition to activating and deactivating the feature, and you can choose the wallpaper by choosing ” Choose Wallpaper “, you can still define through the slide if you want to use the animation only on the lock screen (1) on the home screen (2) or both (3).
The application developer has also added some other customization options to further improve the experience of using the system along with the chosen animation, as follows:
- Dark Mode (For Folders & Dock): enables the night mode activation for the dock and also for the folders;
- Hide Dock Background: allows you to hide the background of the dock;
- Hide Folder Icon Background: allows you to hide the folder icon background;
- Hide Folder Background: allows you to hide the folder background.
Once you have chosen the wallpaper, just touch ” Apply Wallpaper ” to see the animation in action on the chosen screens. If any changes are made to the other settings in general, it is necessary to tap ” Respring ” for them to be implemented.
Of course, just as you might imagine, using the animation for any of the screens can greatly increase the device’s battery consumption – even if the tweak is optimized to the maximum.
It can be downloaded through the official repository of Cydia for $1.50, about $5.78 in direct conversion, MotionPicture is compatible only with devices with jailbreak in iOS 11. It is worth mentioning that the application can enter in conflict with any other related to the same purpose.
