WhatsApp began to temporarily block accounts of users. They are the ones who access the Messenger network via parallel apps made by third parties. Most affected seem to be GB WhatsApp users. It’s one of the most well-known “pirate alternatives” to communicate with original WhatsApp contacts.
Several reports of blocked users appeared on Twitter as well as on XDA Developers forums. Note that, unlike Telegram, WhatsApp is a closed source messenger. And it does not, according to its terms of service, allow the use of tampered applications.

Among the reports of affected users, some published screenshots showing a countdown that prevented access to the app. The first block, apparently, is only 20 minutes. WhatsApp will implement a new temporary lock, if this period ends before the “infringer” migrates your account to the official version.

This second lock, however, is 40 minutes. And it will be doubled whenever WhatsApp realizes that the user is still with a tampered version of the messenger on their smartphone. After some temporary locks, WhatsApp can permanently disable the account because of the infringements.
The official messenger page says about the case:
“If you get a message on WhatsApp saying that your account has been ‘temporarily banned,’ you’re probably using an unofficial version of WhatsApp. If you do not switch to the official app after being temporarily banned, your account may be permanently banned from using WhatsApp.
WhatsApp does not authorize these third-party apps. Because we can not verify that the security measures implemented by them are valid.
Unofficial apps, like WhatsApp Plus and GB WhatsApp, are altered versions of WhatsApp. They have been developed by third parties and violate our Terms of Service. WhatsApp does not authorize these third-party apps. Because we can not verify that the security measures implemented by them are valid, ” says the official messenger page about the case.
We don’t know how many temporary locks WhatsApp wants to tolerate. Before it definitively deleting the account of users who insist on using GB WhatsApp or WhatsApp Plus.
