Trade and technology disputes between the United States and China won a major episode on Sunday. Google would have suspended Huawei‘s access to some of its services, such as support for Android. The information is from the Reuters news agency. It would have heard sources full of the subject.
This suspension comes in the wake of a kind of crusade by US President Donald Trump against the Chinese company. And as a result, the upcoming releases of the brand will no longer have access to features like Gmail and Play Store. This is a tough hit on the rise of Huawei to the top of the list of the largest manufacturers of smartphones on the planet .
From now on, Huawei’s access to Android and to any Google service that requires some kind of hardware or software transfer is gone. This leaves only access to the services of the web giant distributed through open source licenses. In short, Huawei’s access to Android updates is lost. But it still has access to the core of the system distributed through the Android Open Source Program (AOSP), reports The Verge.
As a result, the Chinese brand will be at the mercy of Google releasing updates on its open channel (AOSP). This may lead to delays in the distribution of new versions of Android. As well as delays in the security updates for the devices of the brand. Undoubtedly, this will be a great obstacle to the consolidation of the company’s plans.

Order of Trump
In a statement sent to The Verge, Google claimed to be acting to comply with the recent decision to ban some Chinese companies taken by the administration of the US president.
“We are acting in compliance with the [US Department of Commerce] suspension order and reviewing its implications,” a company spokesman said.
The Google’s representative’s order is the economic embargo that Donald Trump has lifted against China. And it includes a ban on any company in the United States to do business with 71 Chinese companies, including Huawei.
Retaliation on the way?
Announced last week, Huawei received this measure with indignation and the Chinese government promised to respond to the height. It is worth remembering that recently the daughter of company founder and executive Meng Wanzhou was arrested in Canada. This happened at the request of US authorities in one of the most controversial episodes of the crisis between China and the United States.
The imbroglio involving the Chinese company and Donald Trump began even in 2018. At that time, the US president accused the company of working in the service of the Chinese government to spy on the American country. Huawei has always denied any state interference in its business. But despite that, it ended up being placed on Trump’s ban list.
USA vs. China
However, it is worth noting that Huawei has been growing steadily in the market. A market hitherto “quietly” dominated by South Korea’s Samsung and the US Apple. Last year, Huawei took second place on the list of the world’s largest smartphone manufacturers of Apple. Moreover, it is a reference in the telecommunications market. And especially in the implementation of 5G.
Going even further, one can see Trump’s “tantrum” with Huawei and, to a large extent, with Chinese companies, as a sort of protectionism. This can be in order not to lose the edge of a technology market traditionally dominated by the US.
Recently, Trump has been trying to convince his allies to stop using Chinese technology (especially Huawei). So it remains to be seen if the other companies will replicate measures similar to those taken today by Google. And also by the nations around the globe.
Huawei responds
In an e-mail sent to Reuters, Huawei said it will continue to offer support for all devices in its brands.
“Huawei will continue to offer security updates and after-sales services for all existing Huawei and Honor tablets and smartphones. Covering all those already sold or still available worldwide,” the company said.
“We will continue to build a secure and sustainable software ecosystem,” Huawei continued. “As one of Android’s leading global partners, we work closely with its open source platform to develop an ecosystem that benefits both users and the industry,” said the Chinese giant.
